Who will direct Catching Fire?

With Gary Ross walking away from The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire, Lionsgate have got a job on their hands to find a new director to helm the project. They will be hoping to name the new Catching Fire director as soon as possible, so that they do not delay the project too much.

With that in mind, a few names have popped up, being linked to the director’s role for Catching Fire. It is believed that Lionsgate have drawn up a shortlist of director’s who they believe would be able to come on board and do a fantastic job with Catching Fire.

Those currently reported to be on the shortlist to direct Catching Fire include, David Cronenberg (A History of Violence), Alfonso Cuaron (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (Babel). It seems that the early favourite is Inarritu, who has previously been praised by The Hunger Games actress Jennifer Lawrence as one of her favourite filmmakers.

It is also believed that author Suzanne Collins has told Lionsgate that she wants a director who is more interested in making a great movie, rather than worrying about box office ratings. The director will need to sit with Suzanne and screenwriter Simon Beaufoy to work on the script and filming will need to get underway by August to avoid losing Jennifer Lawrence to scheduling conflicts.

Who do you think should be the new director for Catching Fire?
