Super 8 takes US box office top spot
New Sci-fi mystery movie Super 8 has knocked X-Men: First Class off of the top spot at the US box office on it’s opening weekend. The movie is believed to have made an impressive $37 million (£23.3 million) during its first three days at the North American box office.
Super 8 is about a group of friends who witness a train crash, which in turn results in some strange goings on in their small town. The young friends then decide to investigate what is causing the oddness. The movie is set in 1979 and was written and directed by J.J. Abrams and produced by Steven Spielberg.
Although the income for Super 8 is lower than that of recent weekends, it is a much better figure than was expected. Super 8 is due for release to a UK audience on August 5, where it is now expected to do extremely well at the UK box office.
