Priyanka Chopra gives her views on gender inequality
There has been a long and ongoing debate about the gender inequality in the acting industry over the years and, while most of the focus tends to be aimed at Hollywood, it seems that it does actually happen in countries all over the world. We have started to see this issue being addressed slightly but it does feel like we are a long way off from seeing the women in the business earning as much as the men.
Bollywood beauty Priyanka Chopra has enjoyed a long and successful career in the acting industry and, after enjoying a huge amount of success in Bollywood, she has headed over to the US and made a success of herself in Hollywood. Priyanka has now been talking about her own experiences with gender inequality, admitting that she has been rejected from roles and told that all actresses are replaceable.
Chopra explained, "I was rejected many times. I cried. I was told that female actors are replaceable in films because they just stand behind a guy anyway. I’m still used to being paid—like most actresses around the world—a lot less than the boys. We’re told we’re too provocative or that being sexy is our strength, which it can be, and it is, but that’s not the only thing we have."
With that said, Priyanka Chopra is still working hard in the acting industry and has been making a name for herself in Hollywood, with the star playing the female villain in the upcoming new movie Baywatch, which is set to hit the big screen on May 25 in the US and then on May 29 in the UK.
