It is thought that around about $234.2 million (£145 million) of that money came from the domestic sales at the US box office. A further $774.7 million (£480 million) is estimated to have come in from the international box office to push the total gross past the £1 billion mark.

 

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is not the only Pirates of the Caribbean movie to gross more than £1 billion. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest also surpassed the landmark, when it made $1.066 billion (£661 million), after being released in 2006.
