Kanye West receives huge praise from Common
Music star Kanye West is one of those characters in the entertainment industry who seems to divide opinion and, while there are some people out there who have a lot of criticism for the star, there are others who have a lot of praise for him. Fellow music star Common has been talking about his history with Kanye, taking the time to heap some praise on the rap star.
Common explained, "I've known him since he was 19 - he was always speaking out. Some of my friends wanted to fight him. I always admired him. There's courage - honesty there, instead of being politically correct."
As well as talking about his past history with Kanye West and taking the time to heap plenty of praise on the music star, Common also went on to talk about some of the people who he has looked up to over the years. Common says that he loves the fact that some people now talk about him in the same breath as the people he idolised.
Common added, "My heroes are Muhammad Ali, Dr. King, Dr. Maya Angelou, Dr. Nikki Giovanni, James Baldwin. And musically, it's Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, Bob Marley, KRS-One and Public Enemy, up to Kendrick [Lamar] now. They all provided music that became soundtracks to a movement. And for me to be included in that, to have songs that mean something to people, I've got to say, man, it's an honour."
While we have to admit that Common is a big name on the music scene, we are not totally sure that he is yet to be mentioned in the same breath as some of those big name stars, although we are sure that his fans would disagree.
