Julie Plec discusses The Vampire Diaries spinoff The Originals
It was recently revealed that there were plans afoot for a Vampire Diaries spinoff, which would be titled The Originals. Now, showrunner Julie Plec has opened up about the series and given fans a little teaser as to what The Originals might be about.
Plec told Entertainment Weekly, “The idea is that a turn of events in Mystic Falls sends Klaus to New Orleans to solve a mystery. He gets word that some people are making a move against him that might concern him. So he heads to New Orleans to try to figure who's plotting against him and what they're up to.”
Julie also insisted that The Originals would not detract from The Vampire Diaries but would instead expand that world, “It all came together in a way that we finally felt would not detract from our most important baby right now, The Vampire Diaries, and would give us a chance to expand the universe,” she added.
As well as Joseph Morgan appearing as Klaus, Julie Plec is also hopeful that Phoebe Tonkins would appear as Hayley and Daniel Gillies will return as Elijah. Meanwhile, The Vampire Diaries continues on The CW in the US, while it is also shown on ITV2 in the UK.
