There are a lot of people who have been very impressed with what we have been getting so far from the X-Men prequel movies, with the new stars making the famous roles very much their own. Unfortunately though, many of the main stars of these new X-Men films were only signed on to appear in three of the movies, so we were all a little bit worried about the future of the franchise.
Fans had come to love Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique in the X-Men movies, so we were concerned when it was revealed that her contract was up after X-Men: Apocalypse. Fortunately though, Jennifer has agreed to return as Mystique for the upcoming new movie X-Men: Dark Phoenix and the actress has now revealed her reasons for reprising the role one more time.
Lawrence explained, "My contract was up, I didn't have to do another one, but if I didn't do another one, what would her story be? I felt like I owed it to the fans, and I owed it to the character to follow her journey, to be fair to the movies, and not be like, 'I don't want to do another X-Men!' And then I just never show up and everyone's very confused about the Mystique they've been following for the last three films."
We are sure that it will only be a one movie extension, so it will be interesting to see how X-Men: Dark Phoenix deals with bringing the journey of Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique to an end. While we are glad to see the character making a return, we just hope that it does not take too much away from Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, who clearly should be the star of the new film.
