When it comes to making movies that are going to make a lot of money, James Cameron is a guy who certainly knows what he is doing. James holds the top two spots for the highest grossing movies of all-time, with Titanic at number two, whilst the smash hit movie Avatar still holds the top spot, grossing a massive $2.78bn worldwide. It was no surprise then when it was confirmed that there was going to be a sequel to the 2009 movie.
It has taken quite a long time to get these movies into production though, as James Cameron decided that he wanted to do three Avatar sequels, writing them all at the same time and filming them back to back. While we have been waiting very patiently for the Avatar sequels, James has confirmed that the scripts for the sequels are almost complete.
Cameron was involved in a Reddit Q&A, when he explained, "The second, third and fourth films all go into production simultaneously. They're essentially all in preproduction now, because we are designing creatures, settings, and characters that span all three films. And we should be finished with all three scripts within the next, I would say, six weeks."
James Cameron hopes to get Avatar 2 into production by early 2015, with a December 2016 release date planned. Following that, Avatar 3 will then be released in December 2017, with Avatar 4 coming in December 2018. Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana will return for the Avatar sequels but the rumours that Arnold Schwarzenegger will appear have been denied by James Cameron.
Are you looking forward to seeing the Avatar sequels?
