Darren Aronofsky helps us better understand his movie Mother!

Hollywood director Darren Aronofsky has made some great movies over the years but it is fair to say that, when he released the recent movie Mother!, not everybody understood what he was trying to do with the film, leaving many fans very confused. Now, Darren has been talking about his ideas behind Mother! admitting that actress Jennifer Lawrence was supposed to represent Mother Earth.

Bardem was chatting to Variety magazine, when he explained, "I wanted to make a film about Mother Earth and how we treat Mother Earth. The way I see we treat Mother Earth is incredibly disrespectful. We pillage her, we rape her, we call her dirt. That's why Jennifer played the character the way she did. There's a lot of emotion.''

As well as talking about the character Jennifer Lawrence played and the fact that she was supposed to represent Mother Earth, Darren Aronofsky also went on to talk about the character that Javier Bardem played. Darren says that the Javier Bardem character was supposed to represent God from the Old Testament.

Aronofsky added, "I looked at the Bible and how the Old Testament God is painted. When you think about that God, if you don't pray to him, he kills you. What type of character does that? For me, it was about interpreting that to human emotion."

Well, thank you for trying to clear that up for everyone, Darren, but we have to admit that we are still left underwhelmed by the film and still see it as a poor movie, but each to their own!
